Crystal Learns Spanish

When life gives you lemons... make lemonade. When work gives you the ultimatum... go to Costa Rica to learn Spanish! My mom says my life "is a do-over". Im not so sure about that. But the opportunity has come in my mid 30's to do something I’ve dreamt of for years; travel abroad and learn the Spanish language. This blog is for my friends and family to enjoy the tales of my experience.

Tuesday:
Spanish Level: I still have a lot to learn but I asked for a review this week of topics I learned last week, to reinforce all this information. My teachers name this week is Julietta.

Today Siegfried took me to school so I would know what bus to take, how much it is, where to get off, and how to get home. By bus our house is about 15 minutes from school. During school my teacher took me on a tour of the block, a building near by that has a lot of stores and restaurants in the first two floors and also to the park. It was good to get to know where I am now and practice Spanish too.

I’m not so worried about being in San Jose now. I don’t really LOVE it here but I don’t hate it. It’s a lot like downtown Atlanta, a lot to do, fine in the day but don’t want to be wandering around down there after dark. There’s a big park close to the school similar to Piedmont park, it used to be the airport. I think there are lots of jobs and opportunity here. There are a lot of office buildings, restaurants, stores, theaters, cinemas, museums parks, gyms, clubs, schools, car dealerships, supermarkets and tour operators etc.

I talked to a guy teaching English at Conversa today about doing that for a living and he said he didn’t think someone could do it and make a living here for long. Federico, the brother that works for HP travels to Heredia to work. My family here tells me this is the industrial area of Costa Rica and that there are lots of large companies there. Federico’s boss doesn’t speak Spanish so possibly there are companies there tied to the US I could work for.

Are you looking for a part time job so you can defray expenses, or considering staying? Unemployment here is at an all time election season low. Plenty of jobs here that do pay enough to live on. Can you sign up for unemployment there?
PRONTO!! Casa
