Wednesday:
Spanish Level: Today on my tour, Siegfried told me a lot about San Jose all in Spanish and most of it I actually understood. They seem to talk faster here so it’s tougher to understand people. Surprisingly, a lot of people in San Jose speak English too.
After school today Siegfried, my tico brother, met me at school to take me on a tour of San Jose. My house is about 30 minutes from central down town, the school is half way. Little did I know but Siegfried has a keen memory for facts and history. He studied tourism in high school and is a WEALTH of information not only about Costa Rica and San Jose but about the world really. We hit all the highlights of San Jose: Central Market, Central Post Office, Central Park, Metropolitan Cathedral, Melico Salazar Theater, Plaza de la Cultura, National Theater, Gold Museum, National Museum, Metallic School, Jade Museum, an original liquor company, a few other parks and many statues of Don Juanito. At the end we took two busses and magically arrived at home.
Siegfried likes music a lot especially piano. A lot of the radio stations here play hit music in English (from the US). He knows a lot of music from US groups, Journey, Boston, and all the 80’s bands. When we got home he put in a video concert of Yanni; which is the same in Spanish as it is in English incase you were wondering. A very ‘cultural’ day.

If you really want to check his knowledge of the US, ask him which coast Chicago is on?
