Thursday:
Spanish Level: Today I took more notice of the impact accents have on language. I was speaking with a bi-lingual person and I could tell she was a native English speaker right away due to her accent. A man at our school said my accent doesn’t come over in Spanish but when I revert to English everyone knows I’m from the south.
For my field trip this week we we’re going to go to a museum but my teacher started telling me about a funeral that was happening this morning so I asked her if she’d prefer to go to this than to the museum. So she was very happy and we went to the funeral instead. I met a lot of people with her. It was a great time to practice my Spanish because every one stood and talked to me a little. I was truly amazed how many people tried to carry on a conversation with me. I think in the states most folks would have said “oh nice to meet you”, and been about their own business, but the people my teacher introduced me to all asked me: How I liked Costa Rica?, How classes are going?, How long will I be here?, How long have I been here? etc. I was truly surprised at the hospitality in the city.

The y'all always gives you away. Next time you want to learn a language go north and learn how to say you'ns. I would fit right in at a funeral... those are the same questions that I want to ask... especially how long you're gonna be there.
